Colorado Safe Drinking Water Program

 Mission
Ensure Public Water Systems Always Provide Safe Drinking Water

The Colorado Safe Drinking Water Program makes sure that Public Water Systems always provide safe drinking water.  We adopt and enforce regulations and provide assistance and incentives that further protect the quality of drinking water supplied by public water systems.

• Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations - 5 CCR 1003-1 (amended 12/08/2008, effective 01/30/2009)   

• Technologically Enhanced Naturally Occurring Radioactive Materials (TENORM)

 Colorado Primary Drinking Water Regulations - 5 CCR 1003-1 (amended 12/08/08, effective 01/30/09) apply to all public water systems.  The regulations require systems to 

• get approval prior to construction,
• provide water that meets minimum quality requirements,
• be operated by properly certified operators,
• install required treatment,
• test their water to demonstrate that it meets the required quality, and

  • have your water tested at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment Laboratory Services Division

  • other Colorado safe drinking water labs
• report monitoring results and violations to the Safe Drinking Water Program and their customers.

In addition to requiring compliance with the regulations, the Safe Drinking Water Program helps public water systems ensure continuous delivery of safe drinking water by helping systems

• to protect the quality of the source water used by the system, and
• achieve and maintain adequate technical, managerial and financial capacity.
