Regulatory Development

Abolishment of Specific Safe Drinking Water Program (SDWP) Policies

As of March 1 all policies listed in the list of policies abolished March 1, 2012 table are officially abolished.

Comment Schedule:

A public comment period was open from December 2011 to January 2012 to collect stakeholder feedback. The link below includes comments received from the public and the Department's response.

Background:

At the end of 2011, the Safe Drinking Water Program performed a comprehensive review of all written drinking water policies maintained by the Water Quality Control Division. The policies cover a broad range of issues regarding compliance, engineering and enforcement. This review, as well as future periodic reviews of the Program’s policies, is a good business practice that helps ensure all of the policies are effectively supporting the implementation of current regulations.

As part of the Program’s Policy Evaluation Project, it was recommended that all outdated policies be formally abolished. Specifically, the Safe Drinking Water Program has a large number of policies that were implemented during the 1980s and 1990s. While regulations and practices have changed over the last two to three decades, many of these policies have not been re-evaluated since their inception.

On March 1, 2012 the policies listed below were formally abolished. These policies have either been superseded by new regulatory language or they are no longer relevant to the activities/practices of the program. The table below further explains why each policy was abolished.
