Safe Drinking Water Program
|
| ü | Providing advanced drinking water operator training |
| ü | Recognizing and awarding excellent performance from public water systems and individuals |
| ü | Developing a membership program where drinking water utilities commit to improving their treatment processes |
For an overview of the program, visit the Drinking Water Excellence Program presentation or the program’s brochure.
The Drinking Water Excellence Program has developed two advanced operator training workshops for A and B certified treatment operators. The workshops focus on process control, optimization, and performance evaluations. The workshops are free, incorporate hands-on training, and are hosted at drinking water utilities. Due to the overwhelming demand, these workshops will be conducted in both the spring and fall. For more information, please visit the advanced operator training workshops website.
Workshops have been conducted at:
| ü |
Ute Water Conservancy District |
| ü | City of Golden |
| ü | City of Aurora’s Griswold Water Treatment Plant |
| ü | City of Fort Collins |
Performance Based Training is a unique training program developed for surface water treatment plants. The goal of the training is to improve plant performance by transferring priority setting and problem solving skills to plant staff through five separate training sessions. In addition, the training is designed to teach drinking water operators to extract the most performance from their system with the least capital investment in order to consistently meet the more stringent turbidity requirements of the Surface Water Treatment Rule. Currently, six local drinking water utilities are participating in the 18-month long program. View a summary of the Performance Based Training program.
This one-day workshop is currently in development. However, the workshop will be designed specifically for drinking water operators and provide an in-depth study of the microbial-related drinking water regulations – what they are, what they mean, how to comply with them, and specific examples from Colorado drinking water utilities. The workshop will focus on the following regulations:
| ü | Stage 2 Disinfectants/Disinfection Byproducts Rule |
| ü | Long Term 2 Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule |
| ü |
Total Coliform Rule and the Total Coliform Rule Revisions |
| ü | Ground Water Rule |
In is anticipated that the workshops will be offered in the summer of 2010. Please check back here for more updates.
The Drinking Water Excellence Program has been nominating water utilities for the Environmental Leadership Program awards.
2009 Bronze level recipients include:
| ü |
The City of Aurora’s Wemlinger Water Treatment Plant for achieving the prestigious and rarely achieved Phase IV "Excellence in Water Treatment" recognition from the Partnership for Safe Drinking Water. |
| ü | The City of Arvada for forming a unique partnership with SunEdison to construct a state-of-the-art solar photovoltaic power system at the Ralston Water Treatment Plant. |
If your utility is interested applying for an Environmental Leadership Program award, please contact the Drinking Water Excellence Program.
