Energy Fuels Radioactive Materials License
Application Deemed Complete:
Technical Adequacy Review Begins for Proposed Piñon Ridge
Uranium Mill
DENVER—The Radiation Program of the Colorado Department
of Public Health and Environment announced today that Energy Fuels
Resources Corp.’s radioactive materials license application is complete.
The license is required before the company can construct its proposed
Piñon Ridge Uranium Mill about 12 miles west of Naturita, Colo., in the
Paradox Valley.
Today’s completeness determination triggers a
comprehensive technical review by the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment, which will last between 12 and 14
months, depending upon when certain milestones are reached.
Although the application was found to be complete, the
department will issue formal Requests for Information to Energy
Fuels throughout the process to clarify items and answer
evolving questions about the project. Energy Fuels has been
notified to expect such requests early in the process related to
soil and borrow material characteristics and foundation design.
State officials will make no public statements about the
technical adequacy of the application during the review period.
Energy Fuels will hold its first public meeting
at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 21, at Nucla High School, 225 W. 4th
Ave. in Nucla. The company tentatively has scheduled its second
public meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at the Montrose Pavilion,
1800 Pavilion Dr. in Montrose. A starting time for the February
meeting has not been determined.
