Local Communities Come Together to Protect Drinking Water Standley Lake/Clear Creek Source Water Protection Planning group to host meeting July 30DENVER – Residents, elected officials and other members of the public are invited to attend an open house at West View Recreation Center, 10747 W. 108th Ave., in Westminster on Thursday, July 30, 3-5 p.m., to participate in ongoing efforts to protect clean drinking water. The Standley Lake/Clear Creek Source Water Protection Planning group is hosting this meeting to gather input on the Standley Lake Source Water Protection Plan. The plan is focused on identifying phosphorus and nitrogen sources and ways to reduce the levels of these fertilizers in Standley Lake. Clear Creek and Standley Lake provide drinking water for more than half a million people on the Front Range. Recipients of this water include residents of Georgetown, Idaho Springs, Golden, Arvada, Northglenn, Thornton and Westminster. Effective protection of these water supplies requires collaboration from local government representatives, planners, state and federal agencies, as well as community members and organizations. Presentations and posters will provide information on pollution prevention strategies and details of the Source Water Protection Plan. In addition, those attending will have the opportunity to learn more about what they can do to protect the health of Standley Lake and the quality of their drinking water. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment is funding this effort through a $50,000 grant, which is supported by in-kind funding from a variety of stakeholders. Representatives of the department’s Water Quality Control Division will be in attendance at the meeting. For additional information about the meeting or the planning group, contact Rob Buirgy, protection plan coordinator, at 303-953-8342 or rbuirgy@gmail.com , or go to www.standleyswp.com . Refreshments will be served. ---30--- |
