Colorado Board of Health Elects 2009 Officers

DENVER -The Colorado Board of Health elected its 2009 officers during its meeting on Jan. 21. Glenn Schlabs was elected president; Laura Davis was elected vice president; and Jim Martin, executive director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, was selected as secretary.

Schlabs, of Colorado Springs, is a member of the law firm of Sherman & Howard, LLC, in the labor and employment department of the firm’s Colorado Springs office. Schlabs was appointed to the state Board of Health by Gov. Bill Owens in 2002 and was reappointed in 2005. He previously served two terms as the vice president of the board.

Davis, of Westminster, is the director of environmental, health and safety, and system safety engineering for Ball Aerospace & Technologies Corp. based in Broomfield. Davis originally was appointed to the board by Gov. Roy Romer in 1995 and was reappointed by Gov. Owens in 1999 and 2003. In April 2007, she was reappointed by Gov. Bill Ritter to serve another four-year term. Davis previously served as the vice president of the state Board of Health in 2002 and 2003.

The primary duties of the nine-member state Board of Health are to adopt or revise standards, rules and regulations to administer the public health laws of the state.
