See’s Candies, Inc. Recalls Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips Due to Undeclared Milk

DENVER—The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division Wednesday advised consumers who may have purchased 16-oz. bags of See’s Candies Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chips to dispose of them or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. The product has been recalled by See’s Candies, Inc. of San Francisco, Calif. because it may contain undeclared traces of milk.

The recalled product bears code dates of 30757, 31327, 32067, 33157 and 23397 and is sold in black and white See’s logo flexible bags. Product was distributed through See’s-owned retail shops in Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah and Washington. Licensees of See’s also sold the product in Iowa, Kansas, Michigan, Nebraska, Texas and, overseas, in Japan and Hong Kong.

Patty Klocker, a program manager for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s Consumer Protection Division, said, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products.”

One reported allergic reaction linked to the product has been reported but none have been reported in Colorado.
Klocker said Colorado See’s retail shops have been contacted and the recalled product has been removed from store shelves.
