Public Comment Period Opens for Eagle County Landfill to Accept Liquid Waste

DENVER - The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has been asked by Eagle County to review a proposed change to the approved design and operation plan at the Eagle County Landfill, a municipal solid waste landfill located on State Hwy. 131 north of Wolcott. The proposed change would enable the facility to accept non-hazardous liquid waste.

The proposed changes include requirements for waste characterization; solidification basin design; and procedures for the acceptance, solidification and disposal of liquid waste. Initially, only propylene glycol from airport deicing would be accepted. Other liquid wastes would be accepted pending future state health department review and approval.
The Department of Public Health and Environment's Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division is reviewing the changes for technical merit, for compliance with the state's solid waste regulations and to assure the facility will not negatively impact human health or the environment. The department will approve or deny the proposed changes.

Interested citizens may review the application during regular business hours through Monday, April 16, 2007, at:
