Youth Services Program Board Overview
According to §25-20.5-202, C.R.S, an eleven-member Board shall oversee the Tony Grampsas Youth Services Program. Four members are appointed by the Governor, three members by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, two members by the President of the Senate, and one member by the Minority Leader of the Senate. In addition to the appointed Board members, the Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment shall serve as a member of the Board. No more than six of the members appointed to the Board should be members of the same political party. Board members shall serve three-year terms.
Board members appointed by the Governor, Speaker of the House of Representatives, and President and Minority Leader of the Senate shall choose persons who have knowledge and awareness of innovative strategies for youth crime prevention and for reducing the occurrence of child abuse and neglect. Additionally, persons should be appointed who have knowledge and awareness of early childhood care and education, school drop-out prevention, and community planning for youth violence prevention. Finally, the Governor shall appoint at least one member to the Board who is representative of a minority community.
If a vacancy arises on the Board, the authority making the original appointment shall fill the vacancy for the remainder of the term.
