Youth Violence Prevention Program Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Grant:

Enhancing State Capacity to Address Child and Adolescent Health through Violence Prevention

The primary objective of the Youth Violence Prevention Program is to enhance Colorado’s capacity to address child and adolescent health through violence prevention. A Violence Prevention Advisory Group (VPAG), consisting of nationally known violence prevention experts, state agency leaders, and members of private and nonprofit prevention groups, has been created to work with the CDPHE on the development of a state needs and resources assessment, followed by the construction of a state-wide strategic plan.   In year one of the project, a state report card will inventory the needs and available resources throughout the state by identifying programs that are currently available, evaluating existing policies, identifying state-level data sources, and determining readiness to commit to integrating prevention efforts.  In year two, a state-wide strategic plan will outline shared risk and protective factors among different types of violence and recommend approaches that address personal, interpersonal, and environmental or social factors that will lead to the reduction of youth violence in Colorado.
