State Health Care Professional Loan Repayment ProgramThe Colorado State Health Care Professional Loan Repayment Program is a newly funded program in Colorado, which helps health care providers working in health professional shortage areas repay their educational loans. The program is jointly funded by the State of Colorado, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and The Colorado Health Foundation. General Eligibility Certain health professionals may be eligible to receive repayment of qualified student loans if they practice full time, in a Health Professional Shortage Area, delivering primary health services, in a public or nonprofit clinic. The practice must accept public insurance and offer discounted services to low-income, uninsured patients. Nontaxable awards may be made up to $35,000 for each year of service. All contracts are for two to three years, though the program's goal is to facilitate long-term retention of the provider in an underserved Colorado community beyond his or her contract with the state.
