Currently, three data collection systems are in use.

  • The Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Surveillance System uses information on hospitalizations and deaths to design ways to prevent brain injuries.

    Links to TBI partners:
Brain Injury Association of Colorado (providing assistance to persons with brain injuries and their families)
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Injury Prevention and Control
    Colorado Injury Control Research Center

  • The Colorado Trauma Registry uses information from three sources: death certificates, the Colorado Health and Hospital Association discharge data set, and designated trauma centers. The registry also provides a resource for responding to data requests from people and agencies throughout the state.
  • The Colorado Violent Death Reporting System collects information on violent deaths (homicide, suicide, deaths of undetermined intent, and unintentional firearm-related deaths) occurring within Colorado, from a variety of data sources including death certificate, coroner/medical examiner reports, law enforcement investigations, crime lab information, and firearm trace data. The purpose of the database is to provide a more complete understanding of when, where, and how violent deaths occur.
