Cervical Cancer and HPV
Cervical cancer prevention efforts are a collaborative effort from several
programs within the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment including;
All women are at risk for the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). It is the HPV
virus that causes most cervical cancer. By the age of 50, at least 80%
of women will have acquired HPV. Not all HPV will cause cervical cancer,
but only a Pap test can tell you if you are developing cancer.s
Abnormal cells in the cervix, the cells that become cancer don't always
cause symptoms, especially at first. That's why getting tested for
cervical cancer is important, even if there are no symptoms. When it is
found early and treated, cervical cancer is highly curable. Most deaths
caused from cervical cancer could be avoided if women had regular
checkups with the Pap test.
