Colorado Diabetes Prevention and Control Program

Diabetes is a serious and growing concern. Almost 21 million people in the United States have diabetes and 6.2 million are undiagnosed.

Here in Colorado approximately 220,867 Coloradans have the disease and another 92,764 are likely to have diabetes but do not know it. The number of people diagnosed with diabetes in Colorado has increased by about 50% since 1994.

  • Every week, 15,000 people in the U.S. learn they have diabetes
  • Today, someone with diabetes will die of its complications
  • Every day, 45 people with diabetes go blind
  • Every hour, 8 people with diabetes must have a foot, ankle or leg amputated to save their lives
