  About COPAN

COPAN's mission is to prevent obesity and related chronic diseases, and to promote healthy lifestyles for all Coloradans. One of COPAN's main charges is to implement the Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition State Plan 2010.  The plan addresses education, community outreach, policy, and environmental support in schools, worksites, healthcare settings, and communities.

COPAN coordinates its activities through the Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition Coalition, a group of more than 450 public and private partners that work together to design, implement, coordinate and evaluate statewide interventions. Through the coalition, individuals and organizations with an interest in improving Coloradans' dietary habits and increasing their physical activity work together by participating on one or more of the coalition's 8 task forces and initiatives.

The COPAN logic model or program plan, shows how COPAN's resources and activities are designed to change knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and policies around obesity, physical activity, and nutrition. These changes lead to the goal of reduced obesity-related chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, diabetes, and hypertension.
