Program Overview

The Cancer, Cardiovascular Disease, and Pulmonary Disease Prevention, Early Detection, and Treatment Program is a part of House Bill 05-1262, signed by Governor Bill Owens on June 2, 2005. This legislation was developed through the cooperative efforts of the Governor's Office and many groups and individuals interested in chronic disease and tobacco prevention.

The legislation establishes a competitive grants program administered by the Prevention Services Division of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of cancer, cardiovascular disease, and chronic pulmonary disease. Rules for the grant program were adopted by the State Board of Health on September 21, 2005, effective November 30, 2005.
