Worksite Task Force Strategies

A comprehensive worksite health promotion program impacts the entire workforce through identifying health risks, offering activities that meet the needs and interests of employees, and measuring outcomes to improve health and productivity.

The Worksite Task Force and other partners developed the Worksite Resource Kit, a tool to help worksites choose and implement activities at low or no cost, with little maintenance, and without requiring extensive staff time.  Specific action steps and resources are provided for each strategy in the Worksite Resource Kit.

Strategies in the resource kit:

  1. Promote social support interventions and/or health education activities in the workplace.
  2. Explore opportunities for increased physical activity.
  3. Explore opportunities for healthful eating.
  4. Alter worksite environment and/or policy to encourage health and wellness.
  5. Explore interventions that address specific chronic diseases (i.e., diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer, asthma).

To achieve these recommended startegies, please utilize the following resources:

  • Worksite Resource Kit
  • Wellness Councils of America The Wellness Councils of America (WELCOA) is a nonprofit organization offering a proven system to help worksites implement results-oriented comprehensive health promotion programs.  This process includes:
    • Gaining management support for your program
    • Assembling a wellness team representing each department of your company
    • Collecting employee needs and interest data
    • Writing a worksite health promotion "business plan"
    • Choosing and implementing interventions based on your data
    • Creating an environment that supports health
    • Evaluating the program
