Environmental Leadership Program Overview

The Environmental Leadership Program is a statewide environmental recognition and reward program administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment's (the Department) Sustainability Program. The Environmental Leadership Program offers benefits and incentives to members that voluntarily go beyond compliance with state and federal regulations and are committed to continual environmental improvement.

The proposed restructuring of the levels and criteria can be found in the table below. However, for more detailed information, refer to the Program Criteria described in the “Colorado Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) Handbook”. Levels of Program Participation

Environmental Leadership Program Video Contest 2011  
“Colorado Supports Companies that Care about the Environment”

A video competition with the theme: “to show how companies and organizations (preferably ELP companies) are making a difference for Colorado’s environment”. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment’s (the department) Environmental Leadership Program (ELP) is seeking submittals from Colorado videographers – to create a video highlighting outstanding contributions companies have made to improve the environment. (ELP companies are preferred). The winning video will be presented at the Annual Colorado Environmental Leadership Program Awards Event on October 4, 2011 – approximately 350 attendees from Environmental Leadership Companies, government and non-profit agencies will be in attendance. 

Submissions have been closed.

Winner Announcement (ELP Awards Event Date): October 4th 2011 – Denver Center for Performing Arts.

Current Program, Tier or Level, Criteria / Timeframe for Development

Bronze Achiever
  • Recognizes facilities that have made significant achievements in improving the environment of Colorado
  • No serious violations for 1 year, criminal for 2 years
  • P2 efforts such as energy efficiency, waste minimization, water conservation
  • Do not have a functional Environmental Management System in place,
  • 1-year recognition
Silver Partner
  • The Silver Partner Level is for facilities seeking to achieve Gold Level membership or higher, but do not have all aspects of a functional EMS and/or do not meet all of the eligibility requirements.
  • No serious violations for 1 year, criminal for 2 years
  • Commitment to develop an Environmental Management System with milestones that must be met each year
  • Multi-year recognition (not to exceed 3 years)
Gold Leader
  • Must have in place a fully operational, facility-specific Environmental Management System (EMS) with goals
  • Must meet the beyond-compliance requirements for the Gold tier
  • No serious violations for 3 years, criminal for 5 years
  • 3-year recognition and may be renewed
