The Certification Program surveys, reports on, and certifies laboratories that test milk, clinical laboratories that test or use human tissues, and environmental laboratories that test drinking water.

Chemistry includes Organic and Inorganic Laboratories, Toxicology, and Radiochemistry. The Organic and Inorganic Chemistry Laboratories perform most of the water tests in the division.  The rest are performed by microbiology.

Clinical Laboratories in Colorado are registered through the Certification Program under the federal regulation known as the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments, better known as CLIA.  Every site in the United States that conducts tests on human specimens for diagnosis, treatment or health assessment is required to hold the appropriate type of CLIA certificate.
