Remediation Program

The Remediation Program implements or supports the federal government in implementing three different statutes, all of which are focused on the identification and cleanup of contaminated sites. These are: the federal Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA or Superfund), the federal Uranium Mill Tailings Radiation Control Act (UMTRA) and the state Voluntary Cleanup and Redevelopment Act (VCRA). Although most of these sites are inactive or abandoned, some active sites are included in the program.
