Household Alkaline Batteries
Disposal
Some household hazardous waste collection events and facilities
collect alkaline batteries for recycling. If a household hazardous waste collection event or facility is
not available, small alkaline batteries
may be disposed
of in the regular trash. Since batteries often still have
some charge left when disposed, they should be properly wrapped
to avoid being a fire hazard.
Place a piece of tape securely over each terminal end of the
alkaline battery before placing it in the trash.
Alternatively, individual alkaline batteries can be placed in a strong
plastic zip top bag before placing in the trash.
These procedures are intended alkaline batteries from households
only.
