Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division
Hazardous Waste Program

The Hazardous Waste Program ensures compliance with State regulations for the proper handling of hazardous waste.  Anyone who generates a solid waste is required to determine if that waste is hazardous. If the waste is hazardous, it must be managed in full compliance with the hazardous waste regulations.  If the waste is not hazardous, it must be managed in compliance with the solid waste regulations.  Hazardous waste management involves the tracking and regulation of hazardous wastes from "cradle-to-grave"; that is, from the point where it is generated through storage and transportation t the point of final disposal or treatment.  This prevents mismanagement of these wastes that could cause environmental damage or threats to public health.
