The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment
does not have a permitting, certification or approval process for
electronics recyclers, and does not recommend or endorse specific
recyclers. High volume electronics recyclers may need to have an
EPA identification number. This number is a method used to track
the recycler's hazardous waste management activities. It is not a
permit to recycle electronics. Some recyclers offer a
"certificate of recycling" or "certificate of
destruction." This is the recycler's own certification and
may include information like the amount of material accepted for
recycling and their confirmation that it was processed as agreed
to. While it is often good to have such a certificate for record
keeping purposes, it is not a state-required or state-endorsed
document.
