Health FacilitiesRural Health ClinicsA rural health clinic is a primary care clinic that is located in a rural area designated as a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or a medically underserved area (MUA). Under the law, the clinic must employ either a physician's assistant or a nurse practitioner; must make arrangements with a physician for medical direction, guidance, and supervision; and must make arrangements with a Medicare certified hospital for referral and admission of patients by the clinic. The division conducts certification and licensing surveys for compliance with federal and state regulations and investigates any complaints filed against one of these providers. Provider Resources:
