Home and Community Based Services: Adult Day Program

Services: Adult day care services are provided under the Medicaid waiver program for eligible clients. Services include health and social services, individual therapeutic and psychological activities furnished on a regularly scheduled basis in an adult day services center, as an alternative to long-term nursing facility care. Facilities may provide basic services or specialized services. An adult day care facility providing specialized services has been determined by the State to be providing intensive health supportive services for participants with a primary diagnosis of Alzheimer's and related disorders, multiple sclerosis, brain injury, chronic mental illness developmental disability or post-stroke participants who require extensive rehabilitative therapies. The regulations for the program can be found at http://www.colorado.gov/cs/Satellite/HCPF/HCPF/1214427706870

Adult day programs that provide services to brain injured clients must meet several additional requirements:

  1. Staff members must have CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training.

  2. The facility staff must be trained in and demonstrate competency in seizure prophylaxis and control.

  3. Staff must have received specific training in caring for persons with brain injuries.

Adult day care centers providing medication administration as a service must have qualified staff who have been trained in accordance with state law, Chapter XXIV, Section 25-1-107 (1)(A).
