Disaster Behavioral Health
In September of 2010, the
DBHPRP transferred from the Colorado Department
of Human Services to the Colorado Department of
Public Health and Environment - Emergency
Preparedness and Response Division. Our
mission is to continue implementing the nation’s
leading disaster behavioral health system that
provides resources, technical assistance,
consultation and guidance for the people and
organizations of Colorado, from preparedness
through recovery in promoting, maintaining and
restoring individual and community psycho-social
well being. We accomplish this through the
following:
-
Leading in the areas of
policy, procedure and system development;
-
Training in
response/recovery modalities;
-
Raising awareness in the
areas of personal and community
preparedness;
-
Acquiring, developing and
distributing resources and tools;
-
Coordinating response and
service delivery.
We work with 1st responders,
individuals, state agencies, local organizations
and communities in ways that are cooperative,
collaborative, culturally congruent, diverse and
strategic in nature. This effort has lead to the
development of: 1) CoCERN, 2) a well trained
community cadre built through the development
and delivery of disaster behavioral health
trainings, and 3) response resources and their
dissemination. This is a nationally recognized
program for providing leadership, consultation,
training, technical assistance, and building
community and state level capacity to respond to
behavioral health service needs in the event of
a disaster.
