Trauma Designation Process

The trauma designation process beings when the facility requests designation or re-designation as a trauma center. The request should be made at least six months in advance of the planned on-site review. After receiving confirmation of a review date, the facility completes and submits an application to the Trauma Program at least five weeks in advance of the on-site review.

After completing an on-site review, the review team makes a recommendation about designation of the facility. This recommendation is passed to one of two departmental committees for an outside recommendation on designation. The department must make a decision about designation within 30 days of receiving a final recommendation.
