Biography

D. Randy Kuykendall joined the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in November 2004, having left the chairmanship of the EMS Education Program at Pueblo Community College after nine years. He brings 33 years experience in local, regional and state emergency medical services program development and administration. His professional life began as a firefighter/EMT for the city of Las Cruces in New Mexico and culminates in 33 years of providing pre-hospital care as an EMT and Paramedic. He has been a Nationally Registered Paramedic for over 22 years. 

Randy's passion for education and EMS system development is evidenced by over 23 years experience in EMS education program development and service management, including leadership of several major national projects, such as development of US Department of Transportation paramedic curriculum and injury prevention program for EMS providers. He is former chairman of the National Council of State EMS Training Coordinators, Inc., spent eight years as State EMS Training Coordinator/EMS Program Operations Manager for New Mexico Emergency Medical Services Bureau, and was instrumental in the development and implementation of statutory regulations governing the licensing and practice of EMS providers in New Mexico. Randy has served a leadership role on Colorado and New Mexico statewide EMS advisory councils, chaired the New Mexico EMS Licensing Commission as well as the New Mexico statewide EMS 2000/2005 planning effort. His service to the industry has been recognized with numerous regional and statewide awards. In 2006, Randy was elected chairman of the Committee on the Accreditation of Education Programs for the EMS Professions (CoAEMSP) where he represents the National Association of State EMS Officials (NASEMSO).

Randy has been married to his wife Sabra for 29 years. They have four children and two grandchildren. Randy's hobbies include driving fast sports cars and being an avid Rockies baseball fan.
