Worried about having to enter immunization information twice? You don't like extra work and neither do we.
The Colorado Immunization Information System can eliminate double-data entry for your practice. CIIS currently accepts immunization data directly from Electronic Health Record systems (EHRs) through one-way batch file transfers. While we have developed the capability of bi-directional, real-time Health Level 7 (HL7) messaging per the content exchange standards set by HL7 version 2.3.1, we continue to pilot this two-way HL7 communication with Children's Hospital Colorado. We have not yet opened our HL7 messaging gateway to other providers.
Interface Implementation Process for Healthcare Providers Is your office interested in establishing an electronic interface from its EHR product to the immunization registry? Please review our Provider Interface Implementation Process document for more details about the phases of interface implementation and how to get started.
Interface Implementation Process for EHR Vendors Is your EHR company interested in testing an electronic interface with the immunization registry? Please review our EHR Vendor Interface Implementation Process document for more details about the phases of interface implementation and how to get started.
The CIIS HL7 Messaging Specifications Guide describes the content and HL7 message mapping specifications for the set of data elements utilized to communicate information to the immunization registry.
The CIIS Flat File Specifications Data Packet contains information to assist you with creating an export of data from your EHR to CIIS. We currently accept data in the following file formats: Access database, delimited text files, Excel and HL7. Please review the Data Tables and Code Descriptions Tables included in the CIIS Flat File Specifications Data Packet carefully as they answer frequently asked questions regarding the creation of flat data files as well as describe the specific data definitions that must be included in an export file for batch upload into the registry. CIIS uses a Client table which contains demographic information and a Services table which contains information about each immunization a patient receives.
CIIS has successfully established data transfers with the following EHR or practice management software vendors:
In the market for an EHR? Make sure it's certified! The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC) named the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology (CCHIT), the Drummond Group, Inc., and InfoGard Laboratories, Inc. as the first technology review bodies that have been authorized to test and certify EHR systems for compliance. Read more about ONC-Authorized Testing and Certification Bodies.
The Colorado Regional Extension Center (CO-REC), an initiative of the Colorado Regional Health Information Organization (CORHIO) is also conducting a thorough review of EHR vendor systems and posting EHR vendors to its Preferred EHR Vendor List as they become certified and approved.
