Wholesale Food Manufacturing and Storage

The Division of Environmental Health and Sustainability's Wholesale Food Manufacturers and Storage Program inspects and regulates the manufacture, distribution and storage of human food in Colorado, which includes all food intended for human consumption.  Firms in the program typically distribute their products to other manufacturers, or retail locations such as restaurants or grocery markets.  By using the Division's regulations entitled "Current Good Manufacturing Practice in Manufacturing, Packing or Holding Human Food," the program provides oversight to ensure that all FDA regulated food products (excluding meat and poultry, which are regulated by USDA) are manufactured, distributed and stored under safe and sanitary conditions.  The program also requires all such firms to be approved through a registration process, and may conduct product label reviews.

You may also want to visit the Milk and Dairy Program website, which addresses regulations for milk products, including fluid milk, butter, cottage cheese, cream, hard cheese, soft cheese, ice cream, sherbet and yogurt.
