Important identification and/or eligibility documentation requirements

newEffective July 1, 2008, there will be a 75 cent fee increase for the first copy of a birth certificate. The cost will change from $17.00 to $17.75.

Available now! Heirloom birth and marriage certificates! Due to recent legislation, Colorado "heirloom" birth and marriage certificates are now available for purchase from the Vital Records Section of the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. These commemorative certificates are suitable for framing.

Effective January 1, 2007, proof of your relationship or direct and tangible interest is required. Applicants must submit proof of their relationship or documentation to establish their legal interest in obtaining certificates. (i.e. birth certificates, marriage certificates, certified court orders, insurance polices)

Death records for the entire state are available for the years 1900 to present. Certified copies may be issued to: parents; grandparents; stepparents; siblings; spouse; adult children, stepchildren or grandchildren of the deceased; legal representatives of any of the above; legal representatives of the deceased; probate researchers; genealogists representing family members with appropriate credentials; others who may demonstrate a direct and tangible interest when information is needed for determination or protection of a personal property right.


Fees

We accept checks, money orders and credit cards. Please make checks or money orders payable to "Vital Records Section". Please do not send cash.

  • $17.75 for first copy (or search of files when no record is found)

  • $10 for each additional copy of the same record ordered at the same time

  • Convenience charge will be added for phone, fax or online credit card orders (no charge for walk-in orders)

  • $0.00 for regular 1st class mail. Expedited shipping available for an additional charge.

  • $50 for each Heirloom copy (available April 1, 2008)
