Environmental Requirements

This web page provides links to information on air, water and waste environmental requirements administered by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment that affect oil and gas exploration and production (E&P) condensate tanks and tank batteries in Colorado. 

Air Requirements

Best Management Practices for Reducing Air Emissions 
  • The US EPA's Natural Gas STAR Program is a voluntary partnership between EPA and the oil and natural gas industry to identify and promote best management practices (BMPs) for reducing air emissions.

Water Requirements

The Water Quality Control Division (WQCD) issues stormwater discharge permits for oil and gas facilities. 

Hazardous and Solid Waste Requirements

The Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Division administers hazardous and solid waste requirements affecting oil and gas facilities. 

Other Requirements

The Colorado Oil and Gas Commission (COGCC) regulates the oil and gas drilling and production industry in Colorado. The COGCC issues permits for the drilling and operation of oil and gas wells, and enforces rules and regulations for the spacing of wells, well bore construction, and well site reclamation. Rules are also enforced for the abandonment of wells and for the treatment and disposal of oil and gas exploration and production waste.
